MCM & CQCI Press Conference

November 4, 2013

Montreal, Quebec, November 4th, 2013 - The Muslim Council of Montreal (MCM) will be holding a press conference on Tuesday November 5th, 2013 at 11am, to address the increasing problem of Islamaphobia in Quebec and the numerous recent attacks against the Montreal Muslim community, particularly against women.

The press conference will be attended by Salam Elmenyawi, president of MCM, and Mr. Julius Grey, legal representative of MCM, Adil Charkaoui, spokesperson for Collective Quebecois Against Islamaphobia (CQCI), and Bouazza Mache, président de MarkEthnik, in addition to other representatives and several Montreal Muslim women who have been attacked following the PQ government’s announcement of the Quebec Charter of Values.

“Premiere Marois’ introduction of the Charter of Values has unleashed an alarming number of xenophobic and Islamaphobic attacks against the Montreal Muslim community and specifically against visibly identifiable Muslim women,” stated Salam Elmenyawi, president of MCM. “In addition to discussing this growing problem of Islamaphobia at the press conference and revealing the results of our survey, we will also present a road map of our continued opposition to the Charter of Values.”
