Information relating to Thul Hijja moonsighting and Arafat time announcement

December 21, 2006

Assalamou alaikoum wa rahmatou Allahi wa barakatouh,

As many people have been requesting information concerning the beginning of Thul-Hijja, MCM would like to convey the following information:
1) Saudi announcement of the day of Arafah and Eid.
2) Information relating to Thul-Hijja moonsighting in North America.

Please note that this is not an MCM announcement concerning the local Eid time. Due to the fact that there will be different times for Eid, MCM will not announce an official date unless our local imams agree on such a date. Efforts will be made in the coming few days to reach consensus among our organisations, following which you will be informed inshaa Allah.

Saudi Announcement:

It has been published in number of Middle East's Arabic newspapers that the High Judicial Council of Saudi Arabia announced on Wednesday night that Thursday, December 21st, is the first day of Thul-hijjaa. Therefore, the Day of Arafah is Friday, December 29th. Eid would be on Saturday, December 30th inshaa Allah.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish all those who are performing Hajj this year a Hijj mabrour and Saai mashkour, may Allah accept from all of them and forgive them and all of us all sins.

North American Moonsighting:

There has been no reports of moonsighting in North America. Therefore, the first day of Thul-hijja will be on Friday, December 22nd, and Eid will be on Sunday, December 31st, 2006, for those who follow local moonsighting in deciding Eid.

Please contact the undersigned if you have any question, or require any clarification, concerning this message or moonsighting data in Mekkah and North America.

I wish you a blessed and happy Eid, and total forgiveness of all sins.

Eid Mubarak, wa assalam alaikoum wa rahmatou Allahi wa barakatouh.
Salam Elmenyawi
