(Montreal, Quebec, Sept. 8, 2006)- The Muslim Council of Montreal (MCM) extends its sympathy and concern to Montreal’s Jewish community, following the weekend firebombing of the Skver-Toldos Orthodox Boys School in Outremont.

“An attack on a school of innocent children is deplorable by all accounts and must be condemned by all members of our society,” said Salam Elmenyawi, MCM President. “We are grateful that no children were hurt in the attack and we pray for the safety of all.”

MCM calls on the Montreal police department to investigate this attack as a hate crime and move swiftly to punish the perpetrators.

“A clear message must be sent out that hate crimes are atrocious acts which absolutely must not be tolerated in our society, or in any society. Together we must all work together towards fostering respect, tolerance, peace and justice in our world,” Elmenyawi stated.
