Canadian Jewish Congress (QR) condemns recent attack on Montreal Imam

MONTREAL, JUNE 12, 2006 – Canadian Jewish Congress, Quebec Region (CJC,QR) officials have condemned the recent attack on Imam Said Jazeri outside a Montreal Mosque. The Imam and a friend were attacked by a knife-wielding man in front of the Al-Qods mosque on Belanger Street in Montreal North on Friday night. The perpetrator was arrested soon after the attack.

“This kind of act cannot be tolerated in a multicultural society like Quebec. We can not allow intolerance and hatred to become the norm.” said CJC, QR President Jeffrey Boro. “As Jews, we know all too well the pain of such attacks. As Quebecers, we must all stand up together to denounce any form of hatred.”

A letter condemning the act and expressing concern and empathy was also sent by Boro to Imam Said Jazeri.
